Our Team
Our experienced team of two nurses at Ear Health Waitaki has had various nursing roles during their careers. Now, choosing to work at Ear Health, they aim to provide the community with a great service accessible to all. We pride ourselves on delivering high standards of professional care and building great rapport with our clients.
Vanessa
Initially trained in the UK as a Registered General Nurse (RGN) and specialised first in Emergency Care in Birmingham and Worcester. She also has 18 years of service in the Army Reserves, including time spent in Bosnia (1997) and Iraq (2003). Emigrating to NZ in 2006, she worked at the local Oamaru Hospital and became a PRIME nurse in Palmerston.
She trained as an Otology/Ear Health Nurse in 2010 in Tauranga and now runs the clinic in Oamaru.
Recently, Vanessa completed the RN Prescribing in Community Health qualification.
Community Nurse Prescribers can provide prompt treatment for ear problems without the need to wait for a doctor’s appointment. They are qualified to prescribe oral antibiotics for both children and adults, as well as topical ear drops for bacterial and fungal infections. With the right equipment to accurately assess whether an infection is present, antibiotics are only prescribed when truly necessary, ensuring timely and effective care.
Any spare time allows her to teach local Taekwondo, dance, and spend time with her family.
Sue
Sue qualified as a nurse in 1995 (Bachelor of Science in Nursing). Over the years of her career, Sue has worked within Starship Hospital (Children), Occupational Health, Orthopaedics, Elderly Care, Practice Nursing, and Reflexology. More recently, Sue has worked as a Sleep nurse and now as an Ear Health Nurse (18+ months) and has become proficient at this role. She is a valued team member and manages the clinic when Vanessa is away.
Outside of nursing, she is also recognised for her expertise as a real estate agent, and she enjoys spending her spare time with her family.
Services provided:
- Examine the ears under a microscope and remove earwax or debris using gentle microsuction.
- Medications to be prescribed for ear problems only.
- Otoendoscopy, video and photography as needed.
- Ear health maintenance for adults and children (generally over 12 months).
- Education.
Rest home and private visits by arrangement.

Consultation + ACC | Appointment: $57 (for those with an ACC claim number for hearing loss)
Consultation + War Pension (with NZDF Funded hearing aids) | Appointment: Funded
